How We Got Started

The summer of 2020 was unlike anything we’d ever faced. With COVID-19 getting worse, both of us—Clark Kammerer and Jarrett Bowen—found ourselves out of work and relying on unemployment just to get by.

Bills piled up, options were few, and the future felt uncertain.

But with uncertainty came opportunity. We suddenly had something we never had before—time. We used that time to dream. We started tossing around the idea of starting something of our own—a company that could serve our community and stand the test of time. We didn’t have much money, only $1,200 between us, but we had determination and the drive to make something out of nothing.

In early 2021, we officially founded KB Blacktop. With one truck, a homemade rig, a tote of sealer, and a simple pump sprayer, we got ready for spring. We focused on the things that mattered most to us: quality products, meticulous attention to detail, and exceptional customer service. Nearly every dollar we had went into the same top-tier material we proudly use to this day.

Since then, we’ve grown far beyond that humble beginning. Our fleet now includes multiple trucks and customized sealcoating truck/trailers—allowing us to serve our customers faster, more efficiently, and with the high standards we’ve held from day one.

 

KB Blacktop is still here and still growing, thanks to the incredible support from our customers, friends, and community. We’re proud of how far we’ve come and excited for what’s ahead.
